In 2010, Devin came from her hometown of Vancouver, BC to Toronto for the first time. She had two suitcases, a laid-back vibe, and a desire for adventure in her possession.
Devin grew up singing in the church, and somehow manages to get involved in the music program at every church she attends. She considers joy-bringing to be one of her gifts, and loves to lead congregations in uplifting and expressive music. She has a particular love for “paperless music”, which involves communal song sharing, simple lyrics, and call-and-response style songs that can be learned and taught on the spot. Paperless music involves more listening to others than reading, and leaves one’s hands free to dance, clap, or shake a tambourine. Since moving to Toronto, Devin has been involved in leading music at many churches, most recently with Church of the Epiphany and St. Mark, and before that with the neo-monastic Jeremiah Community.
Devin’s most recent job was at Sanctuary Toronto, a downtown community where the poor and excluded are particularly valued. There, she worked on communications in the office and at drop-ins with the community, and also started singing and leading music at staff meetings without having been asked. In her free time she loves to dance, read voraciously, and write with others.
